*snap pincers* *click loudly*

Scuttling in the bowels of trees and in the danker portions of the branchways, sap beetles are hardly an uncommon sight. Their appetites are considerably less compared to their days when they were fat, squishy grubs, but that's replaced by their increased aggression. They will charge after anything they consider a threat, snapping their pincers and clicking loudly.

This specific breed of beetle, the sap beetle, is so called because they ate
high concentrations of the elemental sap found in Elevere while still in the
larval stage. When they matured, the sap was secreted to what would become their shell and formed into colourful crystals. You can tell what elemental sap a particular beetle snacked on as a grub by these crystals.

Fire-Breathing Beetles?!?

The sap beetles are considerably more dangerous than your average giant insect. On top of being much more aggressive and quick to attack, their sap-infused shells aren't just for decoration. They can create short bursts of magical energy based on the element they possess. So expect to face a blast of frost with ice-sap beetles, and get a little singed when facing fire-sap beetles.
